Choose a consistent reference system
Assign an opening type and location reference to each surround. Record which floors share the same drawing and which differ. A type schedule makes it easier to compare quantities and prevents a single typical detail from being applied to an exceptional opening.
Measure the visible and hidden dimensions
Record the clear opening, head width, reveal depths, returns and finished wall build-up. Identify the dimension datums and include the relevant elevator interface detail. If the survey is preliminary, mark which dimensions need site confirmation before fabrication.
Calculate scope from the actual components
Separate side pieces, head, trims, supports and any decorative panels. Include folds and returns when preparing a cutting or material review; clear opening area is not the same as developed sheet area. Final production quantities should follow approved component drawings.
Keep these details together.
- Opening reference, floor and quantity
- Clear dimensions, reveal and returns
- Finished wall and support interfaces
- Drawing revision and survey status
